Sensor Kinetics Pro is a more advanced version of the free Sensor Kinetics app that provides you with powerful tools to view and monitor all of the standard sensors available in your Android phone or tablet. It gives you the same capabilities as Sensor Kinetics, plus you can apply filters to the data stream and save the sensor data to your phone and export it to your computer via e-mail. Sensor Kinetics Pro gives you a detailed, comprehensive look at the combined operations of all the sensors.

The New Multi-Sensor Recorder Feature

The Multi-Sensor Recorder is a powerful data logger for the Android Sensor Kinetics app allows you to simultaneously record any combination of your available kinetic (movement related) sensors at a controlled data rate. You can activate the Chart Viewer directly from the Multi-Sensor Recorder, where you can view the recorded data from each sensor. The Sensor Kinetic Pro app also allows you to save and share this recorded data.

What Can You Do With Sensor Kinetics Pro?

Main screen

The main screen lists all of the sensors available on your Android phone or tablet, including the accelerometer and gyroscope.

Linear acceleration charting

Measure data from the sensors on your Android device, including linear acceleration, gravity, temperature and more. Exclusive to Pro version: Includes advanced filtering that you can set with various parameters.

Filter settings

Exclusive to Pro version: Apply Low/Hi pass filtering to experiment with sensitivity. The screen displays the data in real time as it is captured on your device.

RotoView Demo

Demo modes give you hands-on experience with the effect various sensors have on motion-controlled displays. In this example, the attitude (rotation) sensor measures the pitch, roll and yaw (azimuth) angles of your phone relative to the normal horizon.

Tabular data view

Exclusive to Pro version: View chart data in a tabular format directly on your phone or PC with popular spreadsheet programs.

File sharing

Exclusive to Pro version: Save data files directly to your Android device and e-mail them to your PC (.csv format.)

Gyro chart in landscape mode

Charts can be viewed in either portrait or landscape mode.

Magnetometer chart

Chart displays scale automatically on all phones, plus 7" and 10" Android tablets.

The gravity sensor demo (seen here on a 7" tablet) provides an isometric graph where the gravity sensed by the device is separated into X, Y and Z components.




Quick Start

The main Sensor Kinetics Pro screen lists all your available sensors in a combined kinetic action that include advanced charting and other visual presentation of the sensory functions. When tapping the title of each sensor view you activate the charting features, which include file charting, file saving and file sharing.

The Magnetic sensor view includes a magnetic compass, and the Rotation sensor illustrates device rotation via representation of a smartphone display. The Gravity sensor shows the tilt of your device relative to Earth, and the Linear Acceleration sensor controls a virtual floating ball.

Each sensor view allows you to set the update rate, show the measured X, Y and Z readings and verify the actual measured update rate. The three Device-Motion Derived Sensors (gravity, linear acceleration and rotation) share a common Set Rate although they may display different actual measured rate.

When available and activated, each sensor view provides real-time updates and measurements. You can globally suspend the operation by tapping Suspend in the menu, and then resume all sensor activities by tapping Resume in the menu. You can deactivate each individual sensor or modify its update rate. Sensor delays are FASTEST, GAME, User Interface (UI) and NORMAL, where NORMAL is the lower rate. The view block shows the resulting sensor update rate in Hz. For example, 5Hz means the sensor measurement are updated 5 times per second.

Tap the |S| icon to switch to the summary screen. The summary screen is very useful to see how different update rates for different sensors interfere with each other, all in one convenient screen. This screen is Sensor Kinetics in action!

You can activate the advanced Chart Viewer for each sensor that is available on your device by tapping the title line with the chart icon. You can select portrait or landscape orientation for the chart viewer only when the data is stopped and cleared. The chart viewer for the three dimensional sensors that detect rotation (accelerometer, gyroscope, and the rotation sensor) provide a Rotation data mode. During Rotation data mode, the app computes the actual roll, pitch and yaw angles as they accumulate while you rotate and move the device.

Tap the top right Menu button of the Chart Viewer to access Files & Sharing. You can save, open or e-mail your chart data (.csv format) and open the file in a tabular format using a spreadsheet on your phone or computer. You can also set optional Low/High pass filters.

The app is a tool designed to measure the activity of all the sensors on your phone or tablet in the most extreme conditions. The sensors are generally power hungry and consume a good amount of current from the battery, so we recommend that you run maximum speed tests with a charger close by. However, you do have control over current consumption during lengthy tests. Turn OFF all sensors that you are not charting and reduce the sensor update rate. For example, if you chart the gyroscope for an hour, you can reduce the sensor rate to NORMAL (which is the lowest) or even to UI (User Interface). This will reduce power consumption.

You can also change some of the operation parameters of the chart viewer by tapping the Settings menu, which includes the chart screen update rate, the time span of your plots, the scrolling delay and data filters for all sensors in your device. The chart viewer Settings page can also be accessed directly from the chart viewer.

Note: We use Google language translations to make this app more accessible in other countries. We recognize that these translations are very limited. Therefore, you can select the original English in Preference to replace the local language translation. (Language change may require turning your phone off and on to reset.) Better yet, if you volunteer to clean up our machine translation into your native language we will appreciate it very much. We will also credit your translation in the app itself and on this web site.
